Kristin MacKay

Kristin MacKay is the Director of Public Relations and Strategic Initiatives for the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office. Kristin began her career with the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office in 2008 and has been instrumental in the planning and implementation of many of the jail’s inmate rehabilitation initiatives and community programs. In 2013, she coordinated the development of the Youth Tier Initiative and the Youth Reentry Task Force and worked with volunteer and contract agencies to improve jail-based and transitional services for incarcerated men and women. In 2016, Kristin coordinated the development of the Incarcerated Veterans Program and Veterans Reentry Task Force at the Yaphank Jail.

Beginning in 2018, as part of Sheriff Toulon’s Administration, Kristin’s focus shifted to assisting the County Sheriff with his unique set of goals and priorities – and working with local, state, and national media outlets to help convey Sheriff Toulon’s message of reform and his commonsense approach to law enforcement. In addition to press-related functions, Kristin also plays a significant role in community relations for the Sheriff’s Office, interacting with various constituencies and local groups to address issues and concerns.

Kristin has a long and varied career in government. She began her career in 1997 as an Aide and then-District Manager to Congressman Michael P. Forbes and later served as the Director of Community Relations and Constituent Services under Suffolk County Executive Robert Gaffney. In 2000, Kristin was appointed by former Governor George E. Pataki to the New York Industrial Board of Appeals. In 2005, Kristin started a constituent services technology company based on a software application she designed. The company served clients across the nation, including Members of Congress, the City of New York, the Minneapolis Mayor’s Office and Bexar County, Texas. She returned to public-sector work in 2008 after selling the company to spend more time with her growing family. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Southern New Hampshire University and she and her husband, Frank, reside in Rocky Point with their four children.
